The student conference is a one-day long extra-curricular event for university students and academics to engage into an interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange on challenges to reconstruction and reconciliation in post-war Iraq. This time we would like to review scientific findings and develop ideas on how the well-being of university students can be improved. The conference will take place on 25th September 2025 on University of Duhok campus. As part of the conference about 250 students from all academics will work in about 10 interdisciplinary, problem-oriented workshops that were carefully prepared by professors and lecturers from Iraq, Germany and Austria. Results of the workshops will be exhibited and discussed with regard to their meaning for academic discourse in Iraq and beyond and policy considerations with the University presidency, professionals and policy-makers in a big final public conference event. The conference concept has been developed by a team of professors and successfully implemented in six similar events between 2018 and 2023 on different themes online, and in Duhok and Mosul University Campuses.

Conference theme 2025

Questions of Student Well-being, can be considered a starting point for an extensive interdisciplinary scientific debate, in terms of conceptualization, measurement/management and implementation within and outside academia. In Iraq the improvement of student guidance has recently been set on the political and educational agenda in many fields and institutions.

Because of this high global and local relevance, we decided to set quality with all related questions, concepts and discourses, as the umbrella theme for the 2025 student conference.

The key questions we wish to address and discuss with all participants are:

  • How can student well-being scientifically be conceptualized and measured in different academic fields and contexts?
  • What are major issues regarding student well-being?
  • What role can University of Duhok and its students play in the process of improving student well-being in the region?

Facilities

The student conference will take place at the Campus of University of Duhok in the Convention Center through its Psycho-Social Counseling and Student Services Center. The opening and closing ceremony will take place at a hall of the Convention Center (auditorium, fitting 300 people) at University of Duhok.
