01A. Food security through sustainable agriculture

What was the workshop about?

Food safety is a basic prerequisite for social and economic development and a high quality of life. Providing the population with sufficient food is a challenge in Mosul due to the lack of water and the arid soils. Workshop Group 01A advocated for increased use of hydroponics at our RESI conference.  In the case of vegetables, hydroponics is one of the available agri-tech which helps to speed up the growth cycle of homegrown crops without compromising on nutritional value.

01B. Lets go underground!

Due to the limited space available, especially in urban areas, elaborate transport systems are needed. Workshop 01B focused on the planning of a metro system for Mosul and dealt with different aspects of such a project and interdisciplinary approaches to implementation (especially building/tunnel information modeling). The group thus went beyond the question of whether or not a metro system for Mosul makes sense and thought through concrete steps for implementation.
