About RESI
Since 2016, the University of Mosul, TU Dortmund University, and Graz University have been collaborating to provide academic support for the rehabilitation of Mosul University. The partnership works under the project name Rethink Education and Science in Iraq (RESI) and is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) with mobility funds for involved academics. Main aims of the partnership are the promotion of science, dialogue and reconciliation, modernizing education and contribution toward internationalization as well as interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange and learning. Various activities and formats aimed at students, teachers and researchers from different academic disciplines promote academic and intercultural exchange between our universities and contribute to the academic reconstruction and peace and reconciliation work at the Mosul University and in the region. All activities are and have been implemented under the academic leadership of Prof. Dr. Heike Wendt (University of Graz) since 2017 in close collaboration with Mosul University presidency. The project is managed by the TU Dortmund University under the supervision Prof. Dr. Dietwald Gruehn with the support of M.Sc. Dakhil Saydo Hamo, Prof. Dr. Fawzi Habeeb Jebrail, Dr. Saraa Salim Dawood Gargusee, Ass.Prof. Dr. Amal Zedan, Ass.Prof. Raed Ahmed Alnumman, Ass.Prof. Dr. Mohammed Wajid Alneama and Dr. Omar Ahmed Ibrahim are members of the steering committee.
Various activities and formats aimed at students, teachers and researchers from different academic disciplines promote academic and intercultural exchange between our universities and contribute to the academic reconstruction and peace and reconciliation work at the Mosul University and in the region.
These comprise:
– Participatory student conferences with up to 800 participants (in presence and as online format) to strengthen academia, dialogue, democratization and reconciliation;
– Advanced training and discussion events for researchers in order to promote scientific and teaching skills and to support international connectivity;
– Open formats (including creative competitions, exchanges, social media projects, etc.) to encourage students in the region to engage freely and creatively with chosen topics (currently the UN Sustainable Development Goals);
– Visits of more than 150 researchers from Iraq per year to the TU Dortmund University within the framework of the projects Connect for Change and BSF – Building a Sustainable Future to enable insights into the European university landscape and to support professionalization and internationalization
